چکیده

A novel approach for signal parameter estimation, named the Non-Linear Instantaneous Least Squares (NILS) estimator, is proposed and a high SNR statistical analysis of the estimates is presented. The algorithm is generally applicable to deterministic signal in noise models. However, it is of particular interest in applications where the “conventional” non-linear least squares criterion suffers from numerous local minima. The key idea here is to apply a sliding window to estimate the instantaneous amplitude, which is then used in a separable least squares criterion-function. Hereby the radius of attraction of the global minimum is under the control of the user, which makes the NILS approach advantegous to use in practical applications. Numerical results using polynomial-phase signals validate the theoretical results.

Source Term Estimation of Pollution from an Instantaneous Point Source

The goal is to develop an inverse model capable of simultaneously estimating the parameters appearing in an air pollution model for an instantaneous point source, by using measured gas concentration data. The approach taken was to develop the inverse model as a non-linear least squares estimation problem in which the source term is estimated using measurements of pollution concentration on the ...

Non-linear least squares estimation for harmonics in multiplicative and additive noise

We consider the problem of estimating the frequency of a complex harmonic in the presence of additive and multiplicative noise. Two non-linear least-squares (NLLS) estimators, NLLS 1 and NLLS 2 , are proposed, which consist of matching the data and the squared data, respectively, with a constant amplitude harmonic. Expressions for the asymptotic covariances of the NLLS estimators are derived. I...

Multiband TOA Positioning Technique Using an UHF Bandwidth Availability Model for Cognitive Radio

In this paper, the authors present a multiband time-of-arrival (TOA) positioning model and validate the performance in a practical dynamic spectrum access scenario according to results obtained from an ultra-high frequency (UHF) spectrum occupancy measurement campaign. The statistical analysis of the measured data shows a distinguishable difference between the unoccupied and occupied portion of...

A New Strategy for Simultaneous Compensation of Instantaneous Reactive Power and Harmonics of Non-Linear Loads (RESEARCH NOTE)

This paper presents a new control method for simultaneous compensation of instantaneous reactive power and current harmonics by parallel active filters (PAFs). Reference compensating currents of PAF are calculated using the subtraction of instantaneous power from its average value. In this way, it is possible omitting high/low pass filter(s) from the control circuit of PAF, which usually result...

Performance of LTE Channel Estimation Algorithms for Different Interpolation Methods and Modulation Schemes

In this paper, we present performance of pilot based channel estimation techniques such as Least Squares (LS) and Linear Minimum Mean Square Error (LMMSE) for different interpolation methods and modulation schemes. The performance is evaluated using the mean squared error (MSE) as the performance metric of interest for downlink LTE system. Simulation results show that for low SNR environment, a...
